OpenAI secures 3.2-gigawatt power deal for Georgia data center through 2032

OpenAI is planning a data center in Georgia called Project Camellia with a 3.2-gigawatt power deal from Georgia Power. The company plans to spend over $30 billion on the facility near Savannah, with several hundred megawatts set to come online starting in 2028. OpenAI pledged $80 million for the local community and $71 million in Codex credits for students to address growing opposition to US data centers that residents view as resource-intensive but job-limited.
