Anthropic releases Claude Opus 5 with capabilities approaching Fable 5
Anthropic released Claude Opus 5 on Thursday, positioning it as a model that comes close to the capabilities of Claude Fable 5 in many domains while costing half as much. The company said Opus 5 is particularly strong at complex coding tasks and is the least susceptible to being tricked into misuse. Anthropic expects Opus 5's classifiers to intervene around 85% less often than they do for Fable 5, and the model has less restrictive safeguards than the Fable model. Opus 5 is the new default model on Claude Max and is available on Amazon Bedrock and Claude Platform on AWS, where it benefits from zero data retention by default. This is Anthropic's fourth model release in less than two months.
